Astrophysical Numerikum: Introduction to methods in astrophysics (practical course)

Introduction to numerical techniques, solution of numerical problems, computer programing.
Subject: Numerical methods and modeling of selected astronomical and astrophysical problems:
- Introduction to higher programing languages
- Numerical mathematics: from vectors to integration and differential equations
- Application to selected astronomical and astrophysical problems
Conditions:
Knowledge of the Physics/B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or comparable courses of studies. Basic knowledge of a computer language (C, C++, Fortran, Pascal, ...) would be advantageous.
Performance:
Four-hour practical course. Teamwork (small groups) on different astrophysical topics.
Target group:
Postgraduate practical course on astronomy and astrophysics. Practical part of the module Advanced Astronomy and Astrophysics (Physics/Master). One can choose - if possible - between the Astrophysical numerical course and Astrophysical practical course.
Open also for all students with interest in astronomy and astrophysics.
