Frequency and statistics of binary stars in the Galaxy. Different types and subtypes of binary stars. Determination of basic stellar parameters based on binary stars. Mass transfer and Roch-lobe overflow. Parameter extraction from light curves. Exoplanet transit modeling. Dynamical evolution of binary and triple systems. Stellar evolution in multiple stellar systems. Special types of binary stars (Be stars, X-ray binaries, contact binaries, common envelope objects etc.).
Conditions:
Basic knowledge in Physics and Mathematics. Knowledge of the physics / B.Sc. Module Einführung in die Astronomie und Astrophysik advised

Eligible lecture of the module Advanced Astronomy and Astrophysics (Physics / Master). Open also for all students with interest in astronomy and astrophysics.

Lecture will be given in english.
