The premiere of our exoplanet show in Hamburg was a great success

On 15 December 2023, the SPP 1992 celebrated the finalisation of the exoplanet show by the Planetarium in Hamburg.

Due to gigantic distances, it is impossible to observe what exoplanets might look like, even with today’s most powerful telescopes.

Over the past two years, the research collaboration SPP 1992 has worked intensively with the planetariums in Berlin, Münster and Hamburg on the development of a show about exoplanets and discussed the following question with a huge number of scientists: What do we currently know about the appearance of exoplanets?

With well over 5500 exoplanets, there is a large selection of objects to observe and if there is one thing astronomers and astrophysicists are particularly good at, it is extracting as much information as possible from light.

The show demonstrates the methods with which it is possible not only to discover exoplanets, but also to characterise their properties. And there are exciting things to explore: as varied as our solar system may be, there are some truly exotic planets out there!

The show will be presented regularly in Hamburg at the beginning of 2024. A Germany-wide expansion is planned for spring.

We would like to express our sincere thanks for the all-round successful collaboration and are delighted to be able to celebrate such a highlight at the end of our funding period.
