Doctoral Defense of Philipp Baumeister

On Thursday 09th November, Philipp Baumeister, who was employed by the SPP 1992 in the first funding period, defended his PhD thesis at the TU Berlin.

In a 30-minute talk, he gave an overview of his extensive work on planet interiors, and then for 90 minutes held a scientific discussion with the examiners, proving his deep knowledge in the field.

He talked about his advances on how to constrain the interior composition of exoplanets where you only have few observables, using his self-developed machine-learning tool ExoMDN, and also gave detailed info on his study of the evolution of planetary bodies and how interior processes and composition conditions like initial water content in the mantle can influence the long-term habitability prospects on planets, especially in the absence of plate tectonics.

Philipp showed deep understanding of the topics of planetary physics and his real advances in the field, and was rightfully awarded his Doctorate in physics. All of us congratulate Philipp heartily, and we wish him well in his future prospects, including his upcoming Postdoc position at FU Berlin!
