M.B.N. Thijs Kouwenhoven will visit the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut, Zentrum für Astronomie at the University of Heidelberg in August 2023. He will work with Francesco Flammini Dotti, Rainer Spurzem, and their colleagues on numerically modelling the dynamical evolution of planetary systems in star clusters.
Thijs Kouwenhoven is currently Head of the Department of Physics at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.
He obtained his undergraduate degree from Leiden University and his PhD from the University of Amsterdam, after which he worked at the University of Sheffield and at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University.
His research focuses on computational astrophysics, primarily in the fields of planetary system dynamics, few-body systems, and star cluster dynamics.
