The Science Year 2023 with the theme “Our universe” began with a kick-off event on January 25, 2023 in Berlin. The location was appropriately chosen: in the Futurium, a kind of future museum sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the DAAD, among others, as shareholders.
In an all-day workshop, the children of the 4th grade of a Berlin elementary school were to deal with the topic “How do we want to live in the future – exploring outer space”.
In addition to Prof. Joachim Wamsganß (Heidelberg), Dr. Janine Fohlmeister (AIP), Dr. Ruth Titz-Weider and Jan-Vincent Harre (both DLR and SPP-1992) were invited to give impulses. The children tried to translate their ideas on the use of space travel, e.g. removal of space debris, into a stop-motion film, a kind of flip-book.
The 1.5 hour evening event in the Futurium auditorium was a colorful program with short contributions and talks, e.g. with the Federal Minister of Research Bettina Stark-Watzinger and the ex-DLR and ex-ESA head Jan Wörner, moderated by Dr. Sybille Anderl and Dr. Suzanna Randall.
