Astronomers have announced the evidence of a third planet around the Sun’s closest neighbouring star. Proxima Centauri, is a red dwarf star that lies a mere 4.2 light-years from our solar system in the southern constellation of Centaurus.
After two planets have already been found in 2016 and 2020, the third one can enjoy a special feature right away: Proxima Centauri d is the lightest planet detected with the RV method so far with a mass just 25% of Earth.
